Camden Family Home
Norton Ellis recently transformed this Victorian house in Camden Town, north London which had previously been used as bedsits into a modern family home.
A glazed box rear extension and terrace was added. The existing rear brick wall was retained blending old and new and providing privacy. A new glass roof creates a light filled space in an otherwise dark room as it faces northeast.
The lower ground floor was extended and filled with light using walk on rooflights in the terrace above and a glazed section of ceiling. A new terrace was created to make an outdoor living space with space for a BBQ and terraced planters and seating.
In the main house a fire rated glass screen and sliding door was inserted between the living room and hallway to link the spaces. Upstairs sliding doors were used to give a multi-functional layout in the children’s bedrooms, that can be adapted easily as the family grows.
