NEA Sailing Club design exhibited in Monaco

We recently took part in the Monaco Marina Management’s 2023 ideas competition for a sustainable sailing club in St Jean Cap Ferat.
Our submission was exhibited at the Monaco Smart and Sustainable Marina Rendezvous at Monaco Yacht Club. The event was attended by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, pictured below in front of our work.
Our entry SAND STONE concentrated on using low carbon impact materials such as locally sourced stone and timber for foundations, walls and floors which are resilient in a marine environment. Passive systems utilising stack ventilation and solar shading will add to the comfort levels. Environmental technologies will include a sea water heat pump, grey water recycling and solar panels.
The lighthouse is the focal point of our design from which the building radiates in a curved fan formation of solid masonry walls, creating four zones at each level:
A Club activities, equipment storage, restaurant and club room
B Changing rooms, WCs, kitchen
C Circulation space
D Ancillary space for plant rooms etc.
Our proposal will use the beauty of a natural setting on a sandy beach and the enduring strength of natural stone as a building material to provide a new resource for people to enjoy the Club Nautique for generations to come.
